Ulverston in Bloom Confirmed as an entry in the Town Section of Britain in Bloom 2018 for the first time!
In 2017 Ulverston won a Gold Award for an entry that involved a community owned park, fabulous planting around town including local businesses, a wildlife haven, a council park, a wildflower meadow on industrial premises, food growing with schools, Brownies, Guides and Scouts, a beautiful Church Yard, a floral bus stop, fabulous heritage and lots of sustainable planting.
There will be lots to do to prepare Ulverston for the judge’s visit in August including a new partnership project at the railway station, improved signage and interpretation and further developments of our wildlife friendly gardening. We have also been busy applying for grants and planning work with the High School.
Ulverston will also be an entrant in the 2018 Cumbria in Bloom competition, judged in July and will hold its Open Gardens Weekend on 23rd and 24th June, take part in the National Gardens Scheme and hold its annual Garden Competition as part of the Charter Festival.
Jane Lawrence and Kim Farr recently attended the RHS Britain in Bloom seminar in Birmingham for the first time and found it a very well organised and useful event and enjoyed the chance to meet other finalists and the judges who will visit Ulverston in the summer.
