Results: 2009

The lucky winners of the Cumbria In Bloom 2009 competition were revealed at a special presentation at the Graythwaite Manor Hotel, Grange-over-Sands on September 3rd 2009. Prize winners from all over the country converged on the venue to collect their coveted awards. Every year, volunteers, businesses and local authorities work behind the scenes to keep the county’s towns and villages “blooming” lovely for both residents and visitors. The annual competition began in the late 1980s and the tourism industry is recognised with a special Cumbria Tourist Board category.

Stuart Fraser, Chairman of Cumbria In Bloom, said: “This year again we have seen several communities - hamlets, villages and towns - put in lots of effort to improve their appearance and position in the competition.

“And while I welcome the competitive aspect I really applaud all who take part because the participation brings such good results, not only visual but also the satisfaction of achieving something and the bringing together of different people within a community.

“Thanks to all in 2009 and here's to welcoming more participants for 2010.”

The event was attended by the Mayor of Allerdale Borough Council, the Mayor of  Copeland Borough Council, Cumbria In Bloom Patron; The Lord Cavendish of Furness, other dignitaries, Cumbria In Bloom Chairman; Stuart Fraser and executive committee members.
