Cumbria in Bloom Young Persons Painting Competition 2008
Whats it all about?
This is a competition to encourage and stimulate an appreciation of flowers, trees, shrubs, vegetables. salads and fruits, cultivated and wild in the environment.
Whilst any colourful subject containing flower, trees etc. will be accepted, this year, we are proposing a new category, paintings of school gardens to include veg, salad and fruit. Paintings could show how plants provide food sources and a range of habitats for wildlife. Inspirational work in this direction will be taken into consideration by the judges. Who can enter?
This competition is open to all children in full time education within the borders of Cumbria. Children should not enter independently, but should enter through their schools’ Art department. What medium can I use?
Virtually anything: including water colour, oils, acrylics, poster, pencil crayons, wax crayons, collages, charcoal and chalk. The latter two must be fixed to prevent damage in transit. How to enter
We ask that entries, portrait or landscape, conform to A4 size, but will accept A3 if the standard is good. Good quality paper should be used.
Mounting the painting on a thin card or coloured paper backboard aids the appearance of the exhibition, but it is not essential.
Try not to fold the painting when sending your entry to us.
Please include a typed list of names and ages of your schools entry in the envelope.
Please ensure you have stuck the entry form to the back of the painting, duly completed, with the arrow pointing to the top. This helps us to place the painting the right way up in the exhibition. ( Please complete the child’s name in capitals )
Art teachers are encouraged to hold your own mini competition at school and send us your best 10
Group paintings should consist of up to 10 paintings all of the same subject, e.g. sunflowers. Please indicate if your entry is to be considered as a group on the typed list of names to be sent with the paintings. There is a group trophy for the winners in this section, The Rex Marsden Challenge Trophy. Last years winners were, the children of Our Lady of the Rosary RC Primary School Dalton-in-Furness. Judging
Individual and group paintings will be judged in age groups with a prize awarded to up to two in each. One painting from the entire entry will be adjudged best painting in the exhibition, including the groups viewed as individuals. This painting will be awarded the Rex Marsden Medal. Last years winner was Sarah Edmondson of Keswick School.
In order to give good representation of winning entries, the judges reserve the right to choose the painting for the exhibition.
